Read Aloud from Moodle
When you are in Moodle, it is possible to have your work read aloud from the screen. As Moodle is in a browser, you can use the techniques already shown to read aloud using Edge.
In Microsoft Edge, you can press Ctrl+Shift+U to start the Read Aloud function – and then select your voice and speed and the text on page will be read aloud.
However, Module tutors will often add work in other formats, such as Word, PowerPoint and PDF.
Clicking on the letter A with the downward-facing arrow after the file name allows you to access the file in a different format. These formats may vary slightly depending on the file origin, but typically would include:
- Tagged PDF
- HTML (like a web page)
- ePub (for reading on an ebook-reader on a tablet)
- Electronic braille (BRF version for use on braille displays)
- Audio (an MP3 version for listening)
- Bee Line Reader (Enhanced version for easier and faster on-screen reading)
- Immersive Reader (Opens in Microsoft Word’s immersive reader, which has a speech option)
The way these files are rendered in the new format will vary depending on what is in the file on Moodle, but this does give you some choice over how you use the files that are added on Moodle, including some options which will allow you to listen to your content (HTML in Edge, Audio, Immersive Reader).
