Proof reading

When a piece of work is nearing completion, it is important to proof-read it – or to have it proof-read by someone else. This means reading to pick up typing, spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.
In academic texts, you would also be reading to check facts, information, references and the format, which may be specified by the examiner.

It is good idea to have a checklist of the things that you are looking for as you read. You will find some useful strategies for self-proofreading from Walden University.

Remember also that you can use ‘read aloud’ (text to speech) to listen to your work. This can help to hear errors which may not be immediately visible to you if you read it.
